I was sitting at my neighbors kitchen table desperately trying to sew four patches on my sons Cub Scout uniform for his first bonfire event - I was sewing them because quite frankly neither my neighbor or I could understand the "glue and iron" instructions...but that's another story altogether.

As I sat and sewed I had one of those "ah-hah" moments, much like when the Run U Mother mantra came to me.  Exercise groups are today's version of our Grandmother's sewing circles.

Now bear with me here...in the "olden days" women would gather together in groups to sew.  As important as the end product - be it quilt or table cloth - was the camaraderie of the community of women.  I imagine them talking about the challenges of their day, their kids, their marriages.

Skip ahead to this past Friday morning.  There we were, a motley group of 45+ year old women out on the tennis court at 6:00am putting ourselves through the drill of running, skipping, jumping jacks, you get the picture.  All the while, between puffs of breath we were  sharing thoughts about the coming day, weekend, kids, animals...we were connecting with one another as much as were were exercising.  Feeding our minds, bodies, and spirits.  At the end of every hour of boot camp we all feel stronger and better about the day before us - much like I imainge my Grandmother felt after the end of a sewing circle.

Every day I am more convinced of the power of the community of mothers, we make each other stronger.  Today make a commitment to keep the circle growing.  Find a group, start a group, and most importantly, get out there and Run U Mother.
